No Text Willan Publishing are very pleased to announce that they have won a second Independent Publishing Award. This year’s award was for International Achievement of the Year and was presented at the awards evening hosted by the Independent Publishers Guild in Brighton on 7th March. The award was given to Willan in recognition of its strong international strategy and a growth in overseas sales in 2008—in new as well as established territories. Judges liked its use of databases, mailings, advertising and conferences to increase awareness of its books, and noted the company’s increasingly global approach to commissioning.

The judges comments included: “Willan combines excellent publishing in a clearlydefined field with vibrant international marketing... it has done exceptionally well.”

Willan Publishing was shortlisted for the International Achievement Award along with two non-fiction trade publishers, Michael O’Mara Books and Summersdale.

This is the second successive Independent Publishing Award for Willan Publishing, having won the Academic and Professional Publisher of the Year Award in 2008. This year’s award recognises Willan’s growth as an international publishing company with an international range of authors and editors and a proven ability to market and sell books throughout the world.

Willan Publishing continues to grow its portfolio of books, with more than 40 new titles planned for publication in 2009, including three new additions to the successful handbook series: Handbook of Crime (September 2009), Handbook of Internet Crime (October 2009) and Handbook of Forensic Science (June 2009). They will also be publishing three new textbooks in conjunction with The Open University: Crime: Local and Global (August 2009), Criminal Justice: Local and Global (November 2009) and Youth Justice Handbook (October 2009)

Following on from their market leading textbook Criminology by Tim Newburn, in 2009 Willan will be publishing another major new student text Key Readings in Criminology edited by Tim Newburn.

Willan Publishing would like to thank its authors, customers, booksellers, agents and representatives, and others who have contributed to its success.
